Mother Language
"What is a nation without a mother tongue?"Jack Edwards
Language is a strong concept with the ability to shape one's entire identity alone. Language is the main door to a culture, and it helps preserve both the culture and heritage. This is why UNESCO has recognized and celebrated International Mother Language Day for nearly 20 years. Azerbaijani is a Turkic language spoken in the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran, where it is written in Latin and Arabic scripts, respectively. Azerbaijani belongs to the Oghuz sub-group of Turkic languages and is expressed in more than 30 dialects. Although it is spoken by a larger population in Iran (than in the republic), to date, it has no official status in Iran. At EnglishAzerbaijani, in addition to educating our next generations to obtain and preserve the language, we aim to assist Iranian Azerbaijanis in learning the official form of their mother language.
