Dr. Darya Hodaei
CEO of EnglishAzerbaijani |
EnglishAzerbaijani was created out of the necessity felt by Darya Hodaei, an immigrant pharmacy doctor, who felt detached from her Azerbaijani Turkic roots. Raised in Iran as part of a marginalized ethnic group, she was deprived of education in her mother tongue and ethnic history. When she became pregnant, she realized she knew little about Azerbaijani culture and traditions. Determined to reclaim her heritage, she learned the language and traditions and founded EnglishAzerbaijani to share her culture's beauty.
EnglishAzerbaijani uses visual aids to promote Azerbaijani Turkic culture and language through books and animations. We publish content based on Azerbaijani folklore in both English and Azerbaijani to encourage mother tongue education. We also provide practical tools for language development and cultural understanding. Dr. Hodaei lives in Florida with her husband and two kids. They believe in preserving ethnic culture, especially the mother tongue, as a key part of upbringing. Their children are growing up trilingual, learning Azerbaijani-Turkic from their mom, Kurdish from their dad, and English from school and society. Visit Darya's website at www.daryahodaei.com |
